Ceiling whitewashing technology

Whitewashing can be attributed to the simplest and cheapest ways of finishing the ceiling. The only thing is that this type of decorative treatment was used by our grandmothers and great-grandmothers, and therefore is not too modern. Nevertheless, it is still quite often used in repairs. Therefore, let's consider the technology of this type of finishing. This technology is absolutely not complicated and is accessible even to a person without limited skills.

The surface for whitewashing usually needs preliminary preparation.

If lime was previously used, and you plan to make a chalk finish, or vice versa, as well as if the surface has significant contamination or a yellowish color (which appears during chalk treatment when the solution is not tinted with blue), it is necessary to wash off the old coating.

You can do this with a warm soap solution, a brush or a cloth.

Yellow surfaces can be washed with a soap solution with "Whiteness".

If the contamination is not so great and noticeable, you can do without removing the old coating.

The surface must be cleaned of lagging plaster, and irregularities and cracks must be plastered.

There should be no greasy spots on it as well.

After you have done all this, you can proceed with the actual whitewashing.

You can whitewash with lime or chalk.

Whitewashing of the ceiling with lime (technology)

In order for the finish to be smooth, drafts are by no means allowed. Therefore, it is necessary to close all windows and entrance doors and not open them until the lime layer is completely dry.

Divide the visually processed area into several parts. After processing one part, move on to the next. Apply several parallel stripes with a brush or roller. Then several stripes perpendicular to the ones already applied. Rub the solution thoroughly over the ceiling.

If the ceiling is too dirty, lime mortar is applied to it in several layers.

Before applying the next layer, be sure to wait for the previous one to dry completely. Otherwise, the surface may turn out to be uneven, and the lime may lag behind in the future.

If you add a blue to the solution, do it, counting on the entire surface at once, so that the ceiling does not turn out to be uneven in color.

It is better to apply lime with a paint roller, rather than with a brush - this will give a more even result. In addition, whitewashing with a roller is much faster.

This finish does not require updating, approximately 2 years.

Ceiling whitewashing with chalk (technology)

The technology of finishing with chalk is absolutely identical to the technology of whitewashing with lime. The only thing you need to pay attention to is the color of the chalk paste when buying in the store. There are chalky pastes of a yellowish hue. This material is not suitable for whitewashing ceilings. official zlibrary domain library.z . Find free books
